SCOPE & ROLES OF WORK FOR COMMITTEES
A. GOVERNANCE COMMITTEES
- Academic & Curriculum Development: This committee reviews/research and recommends courses and programs functioning under policies and procedures set by the academic senate of the school within the context of culture and ethical scope of the environment having the stake of modern trends in mind. They shall do so first through primary advice to the Chief Executives or their legal representation to or mutual agreement with the board of the school.
- International Relations & Exchanges Programming Committee (IREC): The goal of IREC is to promote cultural understanding and academic collaboration between the school, its environs and the country as a whole; and different partner countries’ scope in relations to education and beyond. IREC is also responsible for the smooth transition of Incoming Exchange Students from multiple international partner schools and colleges and the school.
- Legal Committee: Committees monitor on-going governmental operations, identify issues suitable for legislative review, gather and evaluate information, and recommend courses of action to the board and Chief Executive Offices. They shall handle ethics and compliance as well.
- Procurement Committee: The purpose of a procurement committee is to ensure that the best possible value is received for the school by ensuring that contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder and that all interested parties have an opportunity to be heard. They shall be responsible for purchases and contracts.
- Strategic Development Committee: The scope of work of this committee shall include examining the funding necessary to support school priorities, particularly as they relate to the strategic plan. Expanding methods to promote school reputation. Examine strategies to increase enrollment responsibly over time. They shall be responsible for short-term and long-term goals and strategies planning.
- Quality Assurance Committee: The main function of this committee is to formulate Quality Assurance and Monitoring policies and strategies and ensure their implementation in all departments/units/committees of the academy. They shall be concerned about staff, learners and all parties to ensure each side get the parts of the bargain they deserve of education or individuals or groups that participate in or have responsibilities towards the academy.
B. OPERATIONAL COMMITTEES
- Capacity Building Committee: Capacity-building is defined as the process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in a fast-changing world. This committee shall be responsible for examinations, certifications, Continuous Professional Development (CPD), Publications, training and workshops for teaching staff and non-teaching staff.
- Disciplinary Committee: The purpose of disciplinary action is to correct, not to punish, work-related & Learning-related behavior of staff and learners. Each employee and learner is expected to maintain standards of performance and conduct as outlined by the immediate supervisor and to comply with applicable policies, procedures and by-laws of the school community. They shall ensure disciplinary measures without victimization and intimidation. Conduct fair trials and issue reports on cases. This committee shall be concerned about punctuality and the act of community living among staff and learners.
- Environmental Committee: This committee shall be concerned about the environment. Sanitation, school health and school security. This slide-set includes a slide for each of the 7 Core Concepts of Environmental Health- Toxicity, Exposure, Dose/Response, Individual Susceptibility, Risks and Benefits, Environmental Justice, and Community Resources and Action. They shall research and maintain safety in environment, food, water, sense of security.
- Event Management Committee: This committee shall be responsible for all school’s event planning and management; and shall be the hospitality wing of the school. Responsible for the overall development and management of the date, time, décor, food, water, programming, Conferencing & expo including recruiting exhibitors and sponsors, and promotion of every event of the school. They shall engage procurement committee in finalizing all their contracts.
- Finance & Audit Committee: The scope of work shall include supervision of planning and execution of spending in the operation of the school; and overseeing the financial reporting and disclosure process. Monitoring choice of accounting policies and principles. Proposing appointment, performance and independence of the external auditors to management.
- Maintenance Committee: This committee shall be responsible for the building, vehicles, equipment, instruments, machinery and physical maintenance of school property. The purpose of the maintenance committee is to oversee maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the coop’s buildings, property, common areas and grounds. The committee advises, supports, and makes recommendations to the core management group on all matters of facilities management and maintenance.
- STEM & Innovation Committee: The areas this committee shall cover includes Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Robotics, Information Technology and Innovation with the context of a technology promotion environment. They shall note that Science is essential for understanding the world through knowledge of the laws of nature. It also provides man with a tool for organizing his thinking and for classifying his experience. Science and technology can make a decisive contribution to improving our standard of living; and the main objective of the OAKOM legacy is to create an impact on the community and the Ghanaian society through scientific exposure. They shall ensure the school is on top or among the best when the subject of innovation and facilitating of innovation is dissected in Ghana.
- Teaching & Learning Committee: The work of this committee is to encourage, support and engage in emerging, grassroots investigations of effective and novel approaches to teaching and learning; it is about recognizing that teaching is a medium that can do some things exquisitely but cannot do everything.” Teaching and learning go hand-in-hand. The committee shall find means to create effective teachers who continually improve their skills by learning about the latest trends in the field of education and impact that skill to create a generation that self-motivate towards evolving for better society.
- Administrative & Human Resource Committee: All issues either teaching or non-teaching that are administrative or has to do with Human Resource management of OAKOM shall fall under this committee.
